From Bear Lake to Boise

July ended with this fabulous excursion to Bear Lake with the Crofts family:

All 7 grandkids...2 more on the way!

I was so impressed by my sister-in-law's Katie and Laura for hauling their newborn babies all the way from St. George. I wish I had gotten more pictures but both Rachel (above) and Annie (top pic) are the cutest little things ever...and they definitely made me excited for baby #2!

Papa attempting to feed all the kids cake and ice cream.

For being only 2 weeks old Rachel was super alert. Look at those big eyes!

Waiting to go in Minnetonka cave...I hadn't been there since I was a kid and it was actually pretty cool.

Please excuse my kids greasy hair. He hates having anything on this hands (food, dirt, juice, etc) and his new solution is to just wipe it in his hair. By the end of the day he looks like he hasn't been bathed in weeks.

I was still feeling pretty sick that week (plus Johnny decided to not sleep up there) so my picture taking was pathetic, but we had a great time.

August ended (well I guess it's still not technically over, but nearly) with a quick trip up to Boise to see my parents. My brother Paul had driven up there a week earlier so rather than attempting to entertain my crazy 21 month kid for 5 hours while driving solo I decided to fly up and then drive home with Paul. Unfortunately due to a windstorm that came through last Sunday lots of planes were diverted and I ended up waiting in the airport for 3 hours. Oh well, I think it was still easier to entertain Johnny there than it is in the car. He thoroughly enjoyed watching all the airplanes land, takeoff, and taxi.

He was so cute on the flight, he kept screaming "airplane" over and over and loved looking out the window as we were taking off and landing.

Hanging out at the Boise Discovery Center. It's definitely geared for older kids...I think I was more interested in a lot of the science experiments than Johnny was but he still had a great time.

My dad had to go to the fair for some missionary stuff so we decided to tag along. Oh my, fairs in Idaho are a much bigger deal than in Utah. I couldn't believe how many people were there and it was a Monday afternoon!

Hanging out at the mission home and visiting the Boise temple--my dad's office is right next to the temple.

We found a bunch of cool parks and fun walking trails.

I felt so bad because I really wanted to take Johnny to this park and splash pad in Meridian but of course the day we decided to go it was 100 degrees. I still thought he'd be okay since the water cools you down, but he seemed so lethargic and just kept walking in circles and didn't want to play on any of the toys or go in the water. So we didn't stay long and when I got home I realized he was running a high fever. Poor kid, doesn't he look just miserable in this picture?

Thankfully his fever only lasted a day, but unfortunately he is going on day 3 of Montezuma's revenge. Believe me, this kids normal poop would be classified as diarrhea so when he really gets the runs it is out. of. control.

Thankfully he had lots of grandparent love to make him feel better. The mission home is on a golf course (not a fancy one by any means, but it's fun) and Johnny would always grab my mom's hand and pull her out on the green.

On our way home we drove through Twin Falls (since my parents had a zone conference there the next day) and we stopped by Shoshone falls. I was expecting a dinky little waterfall so I was pretty shocked to see this:

And apparently it's quite a bit bigger in the spring when the water is high.

It was great to see my parents in action and hard to leave knowing it will probably be several more months before we see them again. But I really can't complain, if they were in Mongolia or South Africa who knows if we'd be able to see them the entire 3 years!

So now our summer vacations are officially over and it's back to reality. Maybe we'll just have to ease back into things and go to St. George for Labor Day.

Oh Court, I loved this post! I miss little Johnny, and I'm soooo glad you guys are coming down this weekend. Hey, do you think you could order a copy of that picture of the cousins at Bear Lake for everyone? I'll pay you back. For some reason, our camera took terrible shots of it, and you can't really make much out. My mom really really wants one. Could you order one of my 3 girls too? Or, could you send them to me, and I would love to order them, maybe that would be easier. I'm so glad you got to visit your parents, that's awesome! I bet they LOVED it!

Isn't it great to get to spend time with families in the summer? Idaho is definitely not too bad for having your parents gone. My friend's parents were on a mission in Mozambique and she had some major separation anxiety. Poor thing. I'm impressed with all the fun things you guys did. Hope you were feeling good for most of it too!
