Take Me Back!

*Warning: Major picture overload...view at your own risk!!!*

Sorry for the lack of blog updates...it literally took me a week to get ready for this trip, we were then gone for 10 days, and it's taken me almost a week to recover (and I'm still not there yet). John and I decided to take advantage of the fact that my parents are eager to get in all the time they can with their grandkids before they leave for 3 years, so we took a little Mexican getaway without the kid.

We stayed at a resort about 1 1/2 hrs south of Cancun, right outside of Akumal and about 10 minutes north of Tulum. The location was perfect, close to all the snorkeling and exploring we wanted to do, and remote enough that we felt really safe and removed from the hoards of people.

As always, pictures illustrate better than words, so pardon the massive onslaught of photos (especially all the shots of me, we didn't do a good job of getting pictures of the two of us).

Hanging at the beach

We loved curling up in hammocks and reading

This is probably only 1/2 to 2/3rds of our resort's beach. It took almost an hour to run around the entire perimeter of the resort!

Snorkeling in Gran Cenote. Pictures don't even come close to doing it justice.

Exploring remote ruins in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere. Where's Waldo? 10 points if you can find me!

Nothing beats fresh fruit straight from the jungle

After our jungle and ruins tour, we hopped in one of these boats and crossed two large freshwater lagoons connected by canals used by the ancient Mayans.

This canal was actually built by the Mayans but the water current has kept it flowing

Crossing over to the second canal

This was a natural canal. I'm sad I didn't get any pictures, but we floated on our backs down this canal for about an hour.

We stayed at an all-inclusive resort where all the buffets and restaurants were included. We ate way too much yummy food, but oh it was worth it!

So how could we bare leaving this?

Because we had this darling boy to come home to--even if he has decided to make us pay for leaving him for 10 days by being extra clingy, irritable, and basically making it impossible for me to accomplish any of the 101 things I need to do. Oh well, at least he was good for Grandma and Grandpa!

P.S. Major props to my parents for dealing with a gash to the eyebrow and nasty little shiner. It's inevitable that in a span of 10 days this kid will find a way to injure himself more than once. Oh well, I guess he's learning to be tough! I'll try to post some of the pictures if my mom will let me, he had quite the battle-wound for a while.
